About Mary's Meals
About This Shop
OUR VISION is that all those who have more than they need to share with those who lack even the most basic things, and that every needy child receives one daily meal in their place of education.
In 2002 I met a family in Malawi. Emma was sitting on the floor of her tiny mud hut surrounded by her 6 children. She was dying from the last, painful stages of AIDS. Emma said that there was nothing left for her now but to pray for her children. She was worried about who would look after them when she was gone. I turned to her eldest son, a boy of about 14, and asked him as I might a child at home, “What are your ambitions?” “To have enough food to eat and to go to school”, was his answer. These simple aspirations were the extent of Edward’s dreams. Edward’s dream inspired Mary’s Meals movement. Mary’s Meals offers a daily meal in schools in communities where poverty and hunger block children from getting an education. That meal; brings children into school every day, keeps them healthy, removes hunger pangs, and lets them learn! Education is their best hope of escaping poverty in later life. We are currently providing over 360 000 children with this lifeline.
The average cost to give a child a daily meal in school for a year is £8.40. We strive to be good stewards and keep running costs to a minimum. We are committed to spending at least 93p of every pound you donate on our projects.
