About This Shop
Wales Air Ambulances a charitable emergency service that provides vital air cover across the whole of Wales for life-threatening illness or injury.
Since its launch on St David’s Day in 2001, its three red helicopters stationed in the mid, north and south of Wales have responded to over 12,000 missions.
The charity’s three helicopters are confronted with a diverse and challenging landscape, from mountain tops to back gardens, Wales Air Ambulance can reach any corner of Wales within 20 minutes. 2009 saw the introduction of two ‘new generation’ EC135 helicopters to replace the Bolkow-105 model. The new aircraft will greatly increase performance and provide the latest airborne facilities, technology and medical care that will help make that life-saving difference of reaching incidents, treating patients and getting to hospital quickly. The fast response times and ability to reach difficult locations increases the chances of patient survival in the ‘Golden Hour’ this is the first sixty minutes after a multi-system trauma.
The service is a registered charity and is wholly dependent on public donations. To keep the helicopters flying, Wales Air Ambulance needs to raise over £5-million every year.
The charity has 17 charity shops throughout Wales and a depot in Swansea for donated goods. As well as selling official merchandise, the shops have an excellent range of furniture, clothes, toys, music, films and bric-a-brac. Wales Air Ambulance offers a free collection service for donated goods, in addition to accepting items in-store.
