St Richard’s Hospice has opened a new book and media store in Malvern Link this week, adding to its chain of successful charity shops across the region.    The store has a light, modern and professional look and boasts a vast selection of pre-loved books, music and film.  This wonderful store was officially opened by Matthew Kelly on Fri 26th Feb. After cutting a ribbon and announcing our new store open, he chatted with staff, volunteers and customers and delighted everyone with a reading from a Charles Dickens book.

The charity’s stores have proved such a success that the charity is urging more volunteers to step forward and help run the two stores in Malvern Link. Anyone able to volunteer a few hours a week is asked to call into the shop to chat with the manager about the volunteer opportunities available.
High street shops are a charity’s face within the community and last year the hospice’s 18 shops across Worcestershire achieved a turnover of £2.37 million by selling good quality clothes, bric-a-brac, books and furniture donated by local people.

St Richard’s Hospice is committed to providing a high quality experience for people visiting its shops and offering an easy way for people to get involved with the organisation by donating their unwanted items, and purchasing second-hand goods no longer required by others. A programme of store refurbishment has kept it ahead of the game compared to other charities, increasing the number of people visiting its stores and maximising the money raised from donated items.

Danny Corns, Commercial Director, said; “At St Richard’s we are keen to learn lessons from the wider retail sector and are keen to offer our supporters a pleasant, modern shopping experience. We have developed a very successful chain of shops across the county and are very grateful for the dedication of our volunteers and the local community who generously support the hospice.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with life-limiting illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,600 patients and family members in Worcestershire with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.    Patients are cared for in Day Hospice, the 17-bed In-patient Unit or in their own homes by a specialist professional team as well as many trained volunteers.    In the In-patient Unit, specialist staff are on hand 24 hours a day to manage patients’ symptoms and where, if appropriate, patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity. St Richard’s is an independent charity and is grateful for all donations to help it to continue its work.
