About Christian Community Action
About This Shop
Christian Community Action is a local charity committed to helping local people who are in need. CCA’s core aim is to demonstrate God’s love, by meeting people’s practical needs and restore self-worth.
CCA re-uses household goods and furniture for local people on limited means and surplus donations are sold in our charity shops to offer affordable goods to those in the local community. We currently have 6 charity shops in the following areas: Oxford Road, Southcote, Whitley, Wokingham Road, and Sonning Common. Through our charity shops, we provide supported work placements for those with social or mental health issues and people recovering from substance misuse and addiction, who are trying to find their way back into employment. We can also offer formal training in the form of retail apprenticeships.
Although each shop has a support centre as part of the services that we offer to the local community, we also have a dedicated support centre at our Oxford Rd premises.
Through our support centres people on benefits can access essential furniture items, emergency kitchen and bedding packs, emergency food provisions, support, a listening ear and/or a referral to another specialist service. So far in 2013 – over 3000 people have accessed help through our support centres. We have a weekly drop-in centre at Caversham Baptist Church, where clients are given a meal and CCA services are available. We also have a pre-used furniture store on Silver Street, which is open to the public and all the profits from this shop go back into CCA central funds to help us to continue to provide furniture for those in need.
